Interim Tier 4 CEGR Procedures & Tips

Published:

Regeneration occurs only when it is required.

Automatic Regeneration

Frequency
Automatic Regeneration occurs automatically every 7-9 hours, based on machine usage.

Procedure

  •  When the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is full, Automatic Regeneration will begin automatically.
  •  You will hear a beep, which notifies you that regeneration has begun. The DPF regeneration ON symbol will appear on the display screen.
  •  When the process is complete, you will hear one beep, and the DPF regeneration OFF symbol will appear on the display screen.
  •  The process lasts between 5 and 20 minutes.

Machine operation during the process

  •  Normal machine operation is permitted during Automatic Regeneration and is preferable to allowing the machine to idle.
  •  Exhaust surfaces will be very HOT during regeneration.

Manual Regeneration

Frequency
Manual Regeneration is prompted by the machine when high levels of particulates are detected. The process must be initiated by the operator. Automatic regeneration cannot occur again until the manual regeneration process has been completed.

Alert

  •  The operator will be notified that Manual Regeneration is required due to high levels of particulate matter.
  •  You will hear an extended beep, and the AMBER stop symbol will light up, followed by the DPF regeneration PARK symbol. Begin manual regeneration as soon as possible. Delaying this procedure could prevent the machine from operating properly.
  •  When EXTREMELY high Levels of particulates occur, you will hear a constant beep, and the RED stop symbol will light up, followed by the DPF regeneration PARK symbol.

Operator Procedure

  1. Bring the unit to operating temperature.
  2. Engage the park brake.
  3. Put the machine in neutral.
  4. Turn off the AC.
  5. Put both the hand and foot throttles to idle.
  6. Wait for the DPF regeneration START symbol to light up, and press ENTER.
  7. A DPF regeneration WAIT symbol will appear, while the machine is validating that all actions have been met.
  8. If everything is in order, a DPF regeneration ON symbol will light up.
If everything is NOT in order, a DPF regeneration FAIL symbol will light up. Review steps 1 – 7.

Manual Regeneration takes about 20 minutes. When completed, the DPF regeneration OFF symbol will light up.

Operation Tips

Follow these guidelines to avoid damage to fuel system components and the diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Operate the machine normally during Automatic Regeneration cycles

  •  Avoid prolonged idle time—Idling reduces operating temperature, which increases particulate matter build-up in the DPF.
  •  Use only approved fuels and engine oil—Lesser quality fuels and oil do not burn as efficiently and may increase particulate matter build-up in the DPF

Fuel

  •  Use only ultra low-sulfur fuel that meets SAE J313 specification, Grade #2D (S15) / EN 590 (EU).
  •  In cold climate operation, it is acceptable to use a mixture of #1D (S15) and #2D (S15).
  • Use maximum B5 Bio-diesel blends that meet EN14214 specification standards or ASTM D6751.

Note: There may be a 12% loss of engine power when using Bio-diesel blends due to the lower energy content of Bio-diesel compared to #2 Grade Diesel.

Oil

  •  Use CNH Parts Tutela Unitek 10W40 low ash oil to ensure long life and service in all working conditions.
  •  Oil type is CJ-4 semi-synthetic.

Consult the Operator’s Manual or Service Manual for specification and operating range details. Keep this guide with the Operator’s Manual, accessible to the Operator at all times.

Important Notes

Automatic Regeneration

  •  Continue operating during the process.
  •  Do not shut off the engine until you hear the second beep, indicating the cycle is complete.
  •  If you are working near combustible materials, move the machine away from these materials.

Manual Regeneration

  •  Do not operate the machine during the process.
  •  Do not shut off the engine until the cycle is complete.
  •  If you are working near combustible materials, move the machine away from these materials.
  •  If the RED Stop LED illuminates, DO NOT inhibit the regeneration process.

NOTE: If Regeneration is inhibited, there is a possibility that the engine will de-rate 50-67% depending on the levels of particulate matter in the DPF. The operator will be forced to run a forced regeneration. The life of the DPF may also be significantly reduced by inhibiting the regeneration process.
